Candidates and Elected Officials

November 2024 General Election

Chase Oliver: President of the United States

Meet Chase Oliver, hailed as the “most influential Libertarian” by Rolling Stone. His debate against Sen. Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker’s empty podium thrust him into the national spotlight, earning over 80,000 votes and forcing a runoff. Now, as the Libertarian Presidential nominee, he’s on a mission to deliver a bold message of liberty to everyday Americans. The two-party system is broken and overdue for a shake-up. With inflation soaring and housing costs skyrocketing, it’s clear the status quo isn’t working. America needs a new voice—one that challenges both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. That voice is Chase Oliver.

Mike ter Maat: Vice President of the United States

Mike ter Maat campaigned in 2021-22 as the Libertarian Party candidate in the January special Congressional election in Florida’s District 20. He served as a police officer in Broward County from 2010 through 2021 as a registered libertarian. Mike’s prior career in finance and economics included work with banks as a commercial loan officer, the White House Office of Management and Budget as a financial economist, and as a consulting economist to three other federal and international agencies in the field of economic development. From 1992 through 2002, Mike was an advocate in Washington for free markets in the financial services industry. In 2002, he started a professional education business for bank executives which he successfully ran until 2009, including conferences, webcasting, and strategic consulting.

Michael Bartley: Virginia House of Delegates
District 70: Newport News

My name is Michael D. Bartley and I am running for Virginia’s 70th District House of Delegates. Why do I want to enter politics? I am tired of watching the Commonwealth of Virginia treat the poor as criminals, the middle class as children, and justice is only given to the rich.

I was born and raised in Ohio, and moved here to Newport News in 2000 with my wife Amanda. We’ve lived in Hidenwood since 2008. I earned my BS in Aerospace Engineering from Trine University (Tri-State University) in Indiana. I am an aerospace engineer at Eagle Technologies LLC in Newport News. I am also an Eagle Scout, a Cleveland Browns fan, and an active member and moderator at Warwick United Church of Christ, Newport News.

My wife Amanda, a graduate from Mary Baldwin University, is a teacher in Newport News Public Schools, and our two children attend school in NNPS. On the weekends, I enjoy spending time with my family exploring our local parks, spending time with our church family, and participating in family-friendly Dungeons and Dragons games. We have a multigenerational household, with my mother-in-law and 96 year old grandmother-in-law living with us.

Josh Huffman: Virginia Senate

Joshua Huffman is a longtime resident of the Shenandoah Valley.  Passionate about politics, he first began volunteering at the age of 15. Although formerly a member of the Republican Party for 19 years, Joshua joined the Libertarian Party of Virginia in 2014. He, like the LP, supports limited, constitutional government. Unlike Senator Obenshain, he won't abandon his principles for the sake of power or if his party leaders tell him to do so.
